Colin Wilson

        My boyfriend has recenlty been reading a book called The Occult by Colin Wilson. Everytime he reads a section he gets this look of awe in his eyes. Last night I asked him to read me a section while I finished folding laundry. I know it didn't take long for that look to come into my eyes also.....I'm not sure what to say except for wow!!! It might have been the most intellectual and thought provoking thing I have heard in quit some time. It's funny, everytime my beau reads a part of this book, it seems somehow to relate to what's going on in our life at the time. I myself do not believe in coincidences. This section explained the boredom of life in a way I have never thought of, and ways to deal with it. I can't quote the whole section here but this exert should help....

   "It must be understood first that there is no basic difference between  'mystical' experiences and experiences that belong to the realm of magic or the occult. Because hid consciousness has evolved too fast, man has loat contact with his real identity. When his inner pressure is low - when he is in a state of boredom or aimlessness - he is aware only of the superficial level of his identity. The more deeply he feels, the more of himself he is aware of. This is why Yeats says:

                                When....a man is fighting mad,
                                Something drops from eyes long blind,
                                He completes his partial mind,
                                For an instant stands at ease,

At first I wasn't sure about this...then I thought for a few minutes of the times when I had gotten to the point of extreme emotion, when I was fighting with someone and on the brink of snapping. It was at those times, when I had had enough or couldn't take anymore or cry anymore tears, that I would always seem to step back and look at things totally different, as a whole. I'm sure I have not done this book justice but I truly cannot recommend it enough.
